Adaptation at Scale Prize was formally launched amidst a function in Kathmandu, Nepal on 5th May 2016 by Ideas to Impact. The prize is being implemented in Nepal by IMC Worldwide with support from DFID UK to reward innovative solutions to scale up climate change adaptation in Nepal.
The prize was officially launched by Mr. Ram Prasad Lamsal, Joint Secretary and Chief, Climate Change Management Division of Ministry of Population and Environment, Government of Nepal (GoN).
An introduction on Adaptation at Scale Prize was presented by Mr. Purusottam Man Shrestha, Team Leader, Ideas to Impact. The launch event was addressed by Mr. Mark Smith, Deputy Head, DFID Nepal and key adaptation challenges in Climate Change of Nepal was presented by Dr. Madan Koirala, Professor of Environmental Science at Tribhuvan University, Expert member of Climate Change Council of the GoN. Ms. Kanchan Lama, Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Specialist also presented on Community based adaptation from gender perspective. The launch event was also remarked with key concepts and aim of the prize by Ms. Bryony Everett, Senior Technical Director, IMC Worldwide.
The event was attended by above 60, representing the diverse sector such as GoN agencies, donors, NGOs, INGOs, organisational networks, media and others. The purpose of the launch event was to generate general public's awareness and to raise interest to apply for the Prize.
A question answer session was also held during the event in which questions were answered by the Prize Team. How the information about the prize would be disseminated to the people was questioned, for which it was answered that online information about the prize in a web page, Email, Media, Workshops and Networking with partners will be the key outreach tools.
The other query was on what kind of initiation will be awarded with the financial reward prize and it was answered that assessment of existing activity will be assessed apart from previous experience, lessons learnt and processing of project activities will be considered for the prize.
It was also asked if there is any limitation in project size for the purpose of being prized and it was answered that the winners will be rewarded as per their achievement, plan for scaling up the innovation and size of coverage area.

Regional Workshops on Orientation on Adapataion at Scale Prize
The Stage 1 prize of Adaptation at Scale Prize titled Encouragement Prize (Protsahan Puraskar) was launched on 5th May 2016. Regional levelled one day orientation workshops, targeting potential applicants from all regions of Nepal.
The first regional workshop is being conducted in Nepalgunj on 31 May 2016 for the potential applicants from Mid/Far West Regions of Nepal. The purpose of the orientation workshop is to provide information on the Adaptation at Scale Prize Stage One Application Process, including Eligibility Criteria, Judging Criteria, and Terms & Conditions etc. and to generate maximum participation of applicants from the both regions.
